ABOUT KIMBALL

A Great Place to Grow!

Kimball is a town in Brule County, South Dakota, United States. As of the census of 2020, there were 572 people,189 families, and 309 housing units residing in the city.  Kimball was first known as Stake 48 on the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad line going west out of Mitchell, South Dakota. In 1880, the first homestead claims were made in the vicinity of Stake 48. Kimball was organized as a village in the spring of 1883. It was named for J.W. Kimball, a surveyor.

    • Pukwana - 13 miles west

    • White Lake - 14 miles east

    • Chamberlain - 22 miles west

    • Platte - 30 miles south

    • Mitchell - 49 miles east

    • Sioux Falls - 125 miles east

    • Rapid City - 228 miles west
